Renovations-New

Custom Home Renovations and Remodeling

Plan, Plan and Plan Some More

A well-executed renovation project involves the choreography of thousands of people, parts and pieces. You cannot over-plan. Because of the inherently time-sensitive nature of renovations, it is critical that material selections schedules are adhered to tightly. You’ll know when a selection is coming due because our scheduling system will tell you. And if it’s overdue we’ll reach out to find out how we can help you get back on track. We will sometimes require that mission-critical parts and materials be in our possession before we will begin demolition.

The supply chain challenges caused by the pandemic taught us many valuable lessons which we have integrated into our processes and training. For example, you cannot assume that the flooring you picked out three months ago won’t be on back-order when it is time for installation. Now, more than ever, you need a highly organized and proactive partner to execute a successful renovation.

Is a renovation project right for you? Our New Build vs. Renovation blog post can help you decide.

Beware of fly-by-night operators. The renovation industry is much more prone to abuse because far less capital is required to enter the renovation business. Our suggestions for choosing a builder should be followed very carefully when planning a renovation.

Why You Should Choose Turnstone for Your Renovation or Remodeling Project

  • Turnstone Values

If you are contemplating a major renovation or remodeling project you need to be emotionally prepared to have a new cast of characters in your home for weeks or months on end. Having strangers in your home is stressful, regardless of how professional your builder is. This is where #TeamTurnstone shines! Our Team consists of trustworthy, reliable and personable pros – from top to bottom – no exceptions. It is not uncommon for fast friendships to emerge between our clients and members of our Team. Don’t underestimate how important it is that you have rapport and mutual respect with the people who are going to be in your home.

  • The BEST Project Managers

Your Project Manager is your partner in every sense of the word. Turnstone only hires the best. We thoroughly check their backgrounds and then invest countless hours training them on our values, policies and procedures. Read our Renovation Code of Conduct for Project Managers to learn more about the high expectations we place on our Project Managers while working in your home.

  • A Communication System That Works

Communication lapses will inevitably lead to delays, added costs and/or disappointments. Miscommunications between clients, project managers, selections personnel, designers and trade partners are too often the norm in residential remodeling projects. While no system can prevent all communication issues, Turnstone has invested countless hours refining our online portal to limit the opportunities for misunderstandings. We relentlessly train (and re-train) our staff and trade partners on the use of the system. And we train our clients too. Because miscommunication causes delays, increases costs and adds to stress for everyone.

  • Sophisticated Scheduling

Every day matters in renovation and remodeling projects – even more so than in new construction. It’s easy to map out a few milestones on a calendar, but that approach is insufficient for a complex renovation project.

Turnstone’s approach to scheduling your renovation starts with a proprietary, 400+ step schedule template that we customize to the exact requirements of your project. Whenever a step on the “critical path” changes, the successor steps are adjusted automatically, and the expected completion date is updated. When you request a Change Order we tell you not only the cost, but also the impact (if any) on the project’s duration. Our clients and Trade Partners all see the same schedule information. This detailed, systematic approach to scheduling means fewer surprises and minimal “lost days”.

ALERT- If a contractor promises you a specific completion date on an extensive remodeling or renovation project, you should grab your checkbook and run! That contractor is either inflexible or dishonest. Renovation projects ALWAYS change in the field, either because of unforeseeable conditions or changes requested by the homeowner as the true possibilities reveal themselves.
