Featured in Delaware Today: A Custom Rehoboth Beach Home Built Around Natural Light
A light-flooded Rehoboth Beach house built by Turnstone Custom Homes is not typical of the town—and that’s deliberate.

One of our Rehoboth Beach builds was recently featured in Delaware Today, in an article titled "This Custom Rehoboth Beach Home Embraces Natural Light." The piece highlights a project our team is genuinely proud of, and it gave us a good excuse to talk through the thinking behind it.
Most homes in Rehoboth Beach follow the traditional shingle-style approach: small, discreet windows that prioritize privacy over openness. For this client, we took the opposite direction. The result is a home that stands out in the neighborhood, and for good reason.
Designing Around Light, Not Around Privacy
The brief for this project was clear from the start: bring in as much natural light as possible. Rather than treat that as a minor design preference, our team built the entire back of the house around it. The great room, kitchen, and breakfast area were laid out specifically to maximize sun exposure throughout the day, rather than defaulting to the smaller window openings typical of the area.
That decision shaped everything downstream, from window placement and sizing to how the interior spaces flow into each other. When natural light is the priority, the whole floor plan has to support it.
The Team Behind the Build
This project came together through close collaboration between our design and construction teams. Designer Erik Kampmann led the vision for how light and layout would work together, while project manager Mike Reynolds oversaw execution on site. COO Harvey Ryan was involved throughout, helping keep the project aligned with the client's goals from concept to completion.
The Result
At nearly 2,500 square feet of finished space, the home delivers a modern, light-filled interior that departs from what's typical in Rehoboth Beach, without sacrificing the coastal character clients in this area expect. It's a good example of what's possible when a build starts with a clear priority and every decision supports it.
